Food Storage Tip

I have found that "buckets" are the way to go when it comes to storing large amounts of food. You can get them free from bakerys; although you do have to clean them from the icing and such. (Easy way - Just soak in soapy water over night and the next morning everything slides right out. Then add little more soap to each bucket along with some boiling water and use sponge to slosh around and clean out the greasy part) I store wheat, flour, oatmeal, beans, sugars, salt, and rice in my buckets. They stack nicely and they are easy to get into when I need to replenish my kitchen container. I am going on 30 buckets now...they are mostly in my master closet, but I do have a few in my pantry as well. I'm telling ya - it's the way to go!

Remember ** Always freeze your rice, wheat, and flour for 48 hours to kill all the weevil eggs before storing.

Such a good idea! It's nice to know that you can get them at a bakery too. Oh and the freezing thing is nice to know...I had a little problem with bugs!

We love buckets! Another tip is the GAMMA SEAL LIDS from Emergency Essentials (and you may be able to find them elsewhere) - they are airtight but the lids screw on and off for topping the buckets you are currently using!

Oh, and if you pack the bucket with Dry Ice at the bottom it accomplishes the same thing as the freezer!

Great job!
