All my kids teachers are good and we like them so far! Nicole's teacher, however, runs her class very business-like...nice but very strict. I emailed her today and informed her Nicole would be out for 5 days and if there was any work she would like to send home, that would be great. This evening I get a response back from her that said this:
Thank you for your email. Why will she miss school next week? She really needs to be at school if at all possible because attendance is so crucial for Kindergarteners. We are setting a strong foundation in their education this year and she doesn’t need to miss unless she is ill. We are very academic in Kindergarten compared to the past when we attended Kindergarten. We have a full day Kindergarten curriculum from the State of Texas to cover in a short period of time so it is essential she is present every day. We want to make sure she has a solid foundation in reading, math, writing, science and social studies so she can be successful in life. We will need a note from you for the absences. Thanks for your support.
I mean seriously, we are talking Kindergarten here. Do you think I could ask if college credits will be applied for this year? LOL
THE OTHER FUNNY - You know, kids bring home a ton of papers at the beginning of school. You scan it over, sign the bottom, and stick it back in their folder. It's pretty much the same papers and I'm usually familiar with the info on them. But I got an email today also from Cameron's teacher saying this:
Dear Parents –
This email is to confirm that you DO want your child released from school on their own during a lightening storm, as I have received signed forms (“Dismissal Waiver During Severe Weather”) from you about it. I just wanted to double-check since I know that your kids often ask you to sign a million things and you might not always have time to read them all.
Do I get the "parent of the year" award or what? Should I be worried that lightening will actually strike the exact spot he's in? (JK) We have gotten a good laugh out of this and Cameron is now teasing me saying "Dear Parents, this is to inform you that you DO want your kids released on their own during a TORNADO!" Ha Ha..he is pretty funny!

That's too funny! I read that same note over and over thinking... am I supposed to sign this or not? So to your defense, it was confusing. On top of that, Kolton's school sent a check off list with all the notes we needed to SIGN and return and that was one of them. So I kept thinking, okay am I supposed to sign this. Some notes said optional... not this one!!!
that is hilarious!! it sounds like the way you're going, yours will be the only kids potentially lost in a storm who are also lacking in their fundamental school skills! lol! note that as much as she rambled on about how much they are learning, all she requested in the end was a note and didn't have any work to give you for her...hmmm...
the two things I want to know are
1. what situation happened that prompted this "weather related" permission form and
2. Did you tell Nicole's teacher where you were going??? and to get a grip???
I hope you have SOOOO much fun! Can't wait to see you next week!
One of my family's trips to Florida was during my junior high school career and upon return my English teacher gave me an "F" for that term (although I did ALL my work) and when my mother spoke with him about the 'oversight' he just told her 'F' stood for Florida. Hmmm... I guess he had never been to DisneyWorld!
HAVE A GREAT TIME!
