Thought's from Women's Broadcast

Last Saturday I was very uplifted and edified at the General Relief Society Broadcast. Sister Beck is always so encouraging and empowering. You walk out feeling like you can be better. My favorite part of her talk was when she said,

We have a vital role to play in helping build the kingdom of God and preparing for the Lord’s coming. In fact, the Lord cannot accomplish His work without the help of His daughters. Because of that, the Lord expects us to increase our offering.

I believe that. The Lord needs us to increase what we give of ourselves. We need to sacrifice more, serve others more, offer more sincere prayers, and read from the scriptures more. And if we've been lacking in any of these areas, now is the time to stretch ourselves and really help each other out, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. That is really the purpose we are here.

Elder Uchdorf's talk was excellent as well. I felt like I was sitting in a "counseling" session and he was giving very specific guidance and direction to us as women. He talked about 2 characteristics that Heavenly Father has that we should strive to develop and will help us to find peace: #1 BE CREATING. He said everyone can create something. You might say "I'm not creative" (which is what I said to myself!), but he said to create harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter, and smiles in others. Then I thought, I can do that. And obviously if you are mother, you've created physical bodies and are teaching them. #2 BE COMPASSIONATE. He said service and sacrifice open windows of heaven and the more we serve others, the more substance we have to our souls. He also stated, The number of prayers we offer contribute to our happiness but the number of prayers we help answer may have greater importance. His talk makes me want to serve others including my own little family. That when I feel discouraged or overwhelmed, I need to look outside myself and focus on the needs of others.
